Action Alert: Public Hearings: State Plan for Vocational Rehabilitation Services

The Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services (DDRS), Bureau of Rehabilitation Services (BRS) and Indiana’s Department of Workforce Development invite the public to share comments regarding the Draft Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Unified State Plan, which includes the Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Services Portion of the Unified State Plan. Currently, the draft copy of the WIOA Unified State Plan, including the VR Services Portion, is available online for review and public comment here

These are some of the proposed goals:
GOAL 1: SYSTEM ALIGNMENT -- Create a seamless one-stop delivery system where partners provide worker-centric and student-centric integrated services.

GOAL 2: CLIENT-CENTRIC APPROACH -- Create a client-centered approach, where system partners and programs coordinate in a way that each individual worker or student has a pathway to improving his or her education, knowledge, skills and, ultimately, his or her employment prospects, with a focus on in demand careers.

GOAL 3: DEMAND DRIVEN PROGRAMS AND INVESTMENTS -- Adopt a data-driven, sector-based approach that directly aligns education and training with the needs of Indiana’s business community.

If your child is currently working with VR or may work with VR in the future, we encourage you to attend the meetings and/or submit public comment. If you feel that wait times are too long, or you don't get enough support, etc advocate for increased capacity or whatever changes would improve this service for your child.

Below are the locations, dates and times for the public meetings and all comments must be received by Tuesday, January 12, 2016.

VR specific comments can be emailed to Kathy.Sodeman@fssa.IN.gov, or mailed to the Bureau of Rehabilitation Services, 402 W. Washington Street, Room W453, Indianapolis, Indiana 46204, or faxed to 317-232-6478. For other accommodations, contactKathy.Sodeman@fssa.IN.gov for assistance.
