IHCP Changes Out of State Provider Classifications

Effective July 1, 2019, the Indiana Health Coverage Programs (IHCP) will allow providers in certain areas that are currently designated as out-of-state to instead be designated as in-state providers.

The in-state designation will affect counties in the Chicago, Cincinnati, Louisville, Evansville and South Bend metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) within and bordering Indiana. Providers in these MSAs with service locations in the out-of-state counties will be considered in-state for IHCP provider enrollment purposes.

All currently enrolled IHCP providers located in these counties will be automatically reclassified as in-state providers. Newly enrolling IHCP providers in these counties will automatically be enrolled as in-state providers. This will allow those providers to follow guidelines and processes for enrollment and prior authorizations with IHCP as though they were located in Indiana. The in-state status will not affect billing and reimbursement for services, however. Claims for providers located outside Indiana will continue to be processed as out-of-state claims.
