Family Voices United to End Racism Against CYSHCN and their Families (Fam U) Toolkit website

In honor of Black History Month, deepen your knowledge by visiting the Family Voices United to End Racism Against CYSHCN and their Families (Fam U) Toolkit Website!

Black History Month was first established by Dr. Carter G Woodson as “Negro History Week” in 1926 during the second week of February to coincide with the birthday of President Abraham Lincoln on February 12th and Frederick Douglass on February 14th . According to the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, “in 1986, which was also the first year of the celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday as a national holiday, the U.S. Congress, in a joint resolution of the House and Senate, designated the month of February as “National Black History Month.” The resolution authorized and requested President Ronald Reagan to issue a proclamation in observance. In 1986, the Presidential Proclamation 5443 noted that “the foremost purpose of Black History Month is to make all Americans aware of this struggle for freedom and equal opportunity.””

The 2022 Black History Month Theme is Black Health and Wellness.

The Family Voices United to End Racism Against CYSHCN and their Families (Fam U) Project Team launched www.FamilyVoices.org/famu to support the important work of dismantling racism in healthcare. This toolkit website was curated and designed to offer a variety of documents, multi-media articles, videos, and other relevant resources.
