Hearing needed for Arc health bill

 "The Arc of Indiana has three major priority bills this legislative session.

  • House Bill 1073 our bill expanding the state's Lemon Law to include accessible vehicles;
  • House Bill 1107 our education bill expanding protections for families and students receiving special education services; and
  • House Bill 1158 our health bill assigning the 1102 Task Force to come up with some recommendations for the Direct Support Professional workforce shortage and Community Integration and Habilitation waiver application review process.

House Bills 1073 and 1107 are scheduled for committee hearings for this coming week. You all asked for House Bill 1107 to be heard in the Senate Education Committee and Chairman Raatz put our bill on the calendar for a hearing. Now we need your help to get House Bill 1158 scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Health Committee.

Please contact the chairman of the Senate Health Committee, State Senator Ed Charbonneau. Ask Chairman Charbonneau to hear House Bill 1158 so that the 1102 Task Force can look at ways to better the CIH waiver approval and denial process and ways to attract and retain quality workers to the DSP workforce. This bill would also allow for advanced nurse practitioners to sign off on service plans for babies receiving services through First Steps and it puts the Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services (DDRS) Advisory Council into state statute.

Thank you for your help!"
