House Bill 1107-Call to Action

 From The Arc of Indiana

All of The Arc's priority bills have passed through the first half of the legislative process and we are already hard at work on our bills to get them through the second half of session.

We need your help to ensure we successfully get our bills through the last five weeks of the 2022 legislative session!

House Bill 1107, The Arc's education bill, is assigned to the Senate Education Committee and we need your help to get our bill a hearing.

This bill allows for the burden of proof to be shifted to the school in a due process case if the family goes through a facilitated individualized education program (IEP) meeting and mediation before filing due process. This bill also protects families from having to sign non-disclosure agreements in a due process settlement and requires schools to discuss least restrictive alternatives to guardianships with parents. Lastly, it establishes the Education Scholarship Account (ESA) Advisory Council to be a special education resource to the State Treasurer and to families utilizing the ESA program.

Help us get a hearing in the Senate Education Committee by contacting the chairman of the committee, Senator Jeff Raatz. Click the button below to contact Chairman Raatz and ask him to hear House Bill 1107.
