Indiana State Consolidated Plan of Action for 2009 Public Forums 4/24

Housing that is available and accessible to persons with disabilities is a cornerstone of America's disability policy -- from the Fair Housing Act to the Americans with Disabilities Act. Federal regulations and state initiatives have enabled people with disabilities to have access to public housing and greater opportunities to live in the home of their choice.

Public housing was established to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Public housing comes in all sizes and types, from scattered single family houses to high rise apartments for elderly families.
Families that have a person with disabilities and are income eligible may also participate in all aspects of the housing choice voucher program (e.g., tenant-based vouchers, project-based vouchers, and homeownership vouchers.)

In order to maintain these programs and to ensure people with disabilities (often with very low incomes) can live in the community, we need to advocate for funding.

The Indiana State Consolidated Plan of Action for 2009 Public Forums is being held on April 24th at Eastern Time 2 pm.

The Indiana Consolidated State Plan Public Forums will present how ESG, CDBG, HOME  and HOPWA funds plans for this coming year.  HUD requires that Indiana have public hearings yearly.   This Public Forum will not say who has been awarded for ESG because we have not completed scoring the applications.  This just provides how we expect the funds will be allocated under each activity line items;  essential services, operations and homeless prevention.  The Stimulus Package/HPRP will not be discussed at this hearing.  There will be a future public hearing on this fund and how it will impact the Consolidated Plan.

If you are interested in hearing about the programs, please attend one of these sessions.    It will be web based broadcast from Indpls – where the Consulting Firm,  BBC will go over the plan.  The sites are at local IVY Tech Schools across the state and they  will have a screen to view the broadcast.  Staff from IHCDA and Office of Rural Affairs will be available to answer any questions about the specific grants.
