Self-Advocates of Indiana September Monthly Issues Forum: 9-8-8 Mobile Crisis Support Team Stakeholders Feedback Session

Are you a person with a disability who has experienced a mental health, substance use, and /or suicide related emergency?  If so, did you use the 911 emergency services?  We’re you treated with dignity and respect by emergency personnel? Was crisis intervention provided by the appropriate team of experts?

Join Self-Advocates of Indiana and The Arc of Indiana on Wednesday September 15, 2021, at 4pm (EST) as we partner with Christopher Drapeau State Suicide Prevention Director, Division of Mental Health and Addiction (DMHA) and FSSA to gain knowledge into the planning and implementation of 9-8-8 Mobile Crisis Support team in Indiana. Learn what is meant by the three pillars of Crisis Now Model and who’s part of the three pillars of crisis support.

Background - The National Suicide Hotline Designation Act was signed into law on October 17, 2020. This was done to “transition the cumbersome, existing 10-digit National Suicide Hotline to a universal, easy-to-remember, 3-digit phone number and connect people in crisis with life-saving resources.” DMHA has been tasked with overseeing the planning and implementation of 9-8-8 in Indiana. As part of this charge, DMHA is also looking to increase the number of mobile crisis teams and crisis stabilization facilities across Indiana, with the goal of giving Hoosiers experiencing a mental health, substance use, and/or suicide-related crisis more options and a better experience when they reach out for support and/or relevant resources.

Your feedback is critical in the development of determining  who has, who will be using, or needs behavioral health crisis services. Information gathered during forum will help shape how Indiana develops the 9-8-8 Mobile Crisis Support team serving Hoosiers facing a mental health, substance use, and/or suicide-related emergency. It is vital for voices of  individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities be heard during this stakeholders forum.
