Medicaid, TANF or Food Stamps issues

Dear Family Voices Members,
We have been hearing an increase in concern from our members related to Medicaid and other State Programs. Two key issues seem to have reach critical importance; access to/eligibility determination for Medicaid, TANF and Food Stamps, and denial of coverage for therapy serves by Medicaid. Family Voices is dedicated to partnering with our members and other organizations to address these issues. In that vein please consider and share the following information:
United Senior Action of Indiana and the Association of Retired Americans are working with others to find and assist people who are losing Medicaid, TANF or Food Stamps due to the new "welfare modernization" application or redetermination process.
We've heard from people all over the "pilot area" in north central and northeastern Indiana:
Including 12 counties located in Region 1 which where implemented on October 29, 2007 (i.e, Blackford, Carroll, Cass, Delaware, Grant, Howard, Madison, Miami, Randolph, Tipton, Wabash and White counties). On March 24, 2008, a portion of Region 2 (27 counties, including Clark, Clay, Crawford, Dearborn, Floyd, Fountain, Greene, Harrison, Jackson,Jefferson, Jennings, Lawrence, Martin, Monroe, Ohio, Orange, Owen, Parke, Putnam, Ripley, Scott, Sullivan, Switzerland, Vermillion, Vigo, Warren and Washington) was implemented.
Problems have included lost application forms, long telephone waits on hold with the "Call Center," general confusion with the new system and the inability to talk to a real caseworker who knows what the heck to do!
If you or your family have faced problems like these, please come to a public forum and share your story with local legislators and advocates on April 22nd beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the UAW hall, 29th and Madison Avenue in Anderson, Indiana. (email: fv.indiana@gmail.com to receive a flyer)
No family should have to suffer because our system is broken!
Together we can build the case for change!
If you are still facing these challenges but cannot make it to the public forum, please call a USA volunteer advocate at 317-841-9672 for help or email FV Indiana at fv.indiana@gmail.com and we will connect you with a volunteer advocate.
If you are experiencing a denial of Medicaid coverage for a needed services or therapy please email fv.indiana@gmail.com and we will add your concern to our ongoing communication with state FSSA staff.
