Celebrate Your Vote Event

"VOTE AS IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT - BECAUSE IT DOES" - Justin Dart

Family Voices invites its members to attend the following event. We'd also like to remind our members that you must register to vote in Indiana at least 29 days prior to an election in order to be eligible to vote in that election. The same time restraint applies for registering a name or address change. Indiana law states that you must present a photo ID when voting, and the name and address on your photo ID must match that of your voter registration. Indiana does not require residents to choose a political party designation.

There will be regional sites in Indiana for the ADA-Indiana sponsored videoconference event, "Election Year: Celebrate Your Vote and the ADA," celebrating the 18th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Date: Friday, July 25th

Time: 10:00 am - 12:30 pm EDT

Locations: Bloomington, Indianapolis, Muncie, and New Albany
(also you may "attend" via the Internet)

Event Details for "Election Year: Celebrate Your Vote and the ADA"

Election Year 2008 is looking to be an exciting year for national and state elections, as well as for the Americans with Disabilities Act. Are you ready to exercise your right to vote? Is your polling place ready for you? Join ADA-Indiana in commemorating the 18th Anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act in this informative workshop on voting rights and responsibilities.

There will be two parts to the videoconference:

2008 Indiana Disability Poll: Focus on Voting

The Indiana Institute on Disability and Community will provide some preliminary results from the very timely 2008 Indiana Disability Poll: Focus on Voting and Civic Engagement. Starting in 2007, the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community, Indiana Governor's Council for People with Disabilities, and Indiana Protection and Advocacy Services, have been collecting responses to questions related to voting and civic participation. After the Americans with Disabilities Act and Help America Vote Act (HAVA) are people still experiencing barriers when voting? Are people with disabilities participating in civic activities (like city meetings, public meetings, school boards)? Jeffrey Chait from the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community will give a report on some of the interesting results.

Election Year 2008 in Indiana

The Office of the Indiana Secretary of State oversees the election process. Julia Bauler from the Secretary of State's office will speak about what they do to educate local voting officials, as well as provide some information for voters on their participation in the election process.

Space is limited! Please RSVP as soon as possible.
