September 15 & 16 Forums for Individuals Impacted by
Action to Move Consumers from Your Friends and Neighbors
FSSA recently announced that Your Friends and Neighbors, a company that provides residential services to people with developmental disabilities, is no longer eligible to receive Medicaid funding and has moved to transfer consumers to new providers. Your Friends and Neighbors is challenging that decision. The Arc of Indiana is hosting forums for families, guardians and consumers who receive residential services from Your Friends and Neighbors to provide information on their rights, and options and choices they have in making decisions about the residential services they receive.
The forums will be held:
Fort Wayne / September 15
1:00-3:00 p.m.or 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Grand Wayne Center, Calhoun Room, 120 W. Jefferson Blvd.
South Bend / September 16
1:00-3:00 p.m.
REAL Services, 1151 S. Michigan St.
Mishawaka / September 16
7:00-9:00 p.m.
Bethel College, Wiekamp Complex, Room W101, 1001 Bethel Circle
The Arc of Indiana believes it is very important for families, guardians and consumers served by Your Friends and Neighbors to receive clear, accurate and unbiased information about the choices available to them regarding ongoing community residential services. We hope that we can be that unbiased source of information.
John Dickerson, Executive Director, said, "The Arc has received calls from families who are very confused and concerned about conflicting information they are receiving. We want families to know that we are here to help them in any way we can."
The Arc also encourages families, guardians and consumers to contact them at any time to seek assistance from Nanette Whightsel, a consultant to the organization. Nanette worked for The Arc to help families and consumers through the transition of moving from Fort Wayne and Muscatatuck State Developmental Centers to community placements. She experienced this transition process herself when her daughter, Suzette, moved from New Castle State Developmental Center.
