Clarification of application process for caregiver supports
Family Voices shared an earlier announcement from DDRS regarding the application process for caregiver support for those on the BDDS waiver waiting lists. DDRS has since revised the application process so that the individual with the disability, if already deemed eligible, does NOT have to be present. The caregiver still needs to show up in person.
from DDRS:
Caregiver Support Services – Application process clarification
The Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services (DDRS) recently announced details regarding the
availability of funding for Caregiver Support Services as well as the application procedure for these services.
We would like to clarify that the application for Caregiver Support Services must be made in person at the
Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services (BDDS) district offices by the primary caregiver, OR, if eligibility
has not yet been determined, must be made in person by the primary caregiver and the individual(s), at the
BDDS district offices. If the individual has already been determined eligible for BDDS services, they are not
required to be present.
For reference, please see the previously announced details below:
The Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services would like to announce that there will be Caregiver Support
Services funds available for the fiscal year - July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012. Caregiver Support Services is
100% state funded.
The application for Caregiver Supports Services must be made in person by the primary caregiver and the
individual(s) at the Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services (BDDS) district offices. Services will be
available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The primary caregiver and the individual(s) may apply for Caregiver Support Services at the BDDS district offices
on and after Monday, June 27, 2011.
Caregiver Support Services can be approved when 1) the Caregiver Support Services funds are available, and 2)
individual meets the state definition of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and 3) the primary caregiver
selects a provider.
The individual cannot be receiving any other state funded services and also receive Caregiver Support Services.
Please contact the respective BDDS district office responsible for your county of residence for more details. A
