Share Your Voice about #CHIP

The Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission (MACPAC) has put out a request for stakeholder input on the future of children's coverage, and the consequences of an end to the CHIP program. Should Congress fail to extend funding for CHIP, many children now covered by CHIP would have to get coverage through the Exchanges or employer-sponsored plans, where benefits may not be as appropriate for children. MACPAC is asking for public comment on:
  1. Affordability of coverage and out-of-pocket costs, including premiums and cost sharing (e.g., copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles) in exchanges
  2. Adequacy of covered benefits in exchanges
  3. Adequacy and appropriateness of provider networks for children in exchanges
  4. Greatest area(s) of concern with transitions between coverage in Medicaid, CHIP, exchanges, or employer sponsored insurance, and options to safeguard against them.
In addition, they are asking for input on whether any particular children are most vulnerable to experiencing gaps in care or being uninsured if CHIP funding were to end, and who they are. Comments are due on Friday, December 19, and should be submitted to Joanne Jee at joanne.jee@macpac.gov.
