Indiana State Psychiatric Hospital Network to integrate Trauma-Informed Care Model
The Indiana State Psychiatric Hospital Network, which consist of the six state psychiatric hospitals, is enhancing their recovery models of treatment with the integration of the Trauma-Informed Care model. This is being done in an effort to improve the delivery and receipt of psychiatric health care for our fellow Hoosiers with mental health and substance use disorders.
Trauma-Informed Care assumes that an individual is more likely than not to have a history of trauma. TIC recognizes the presence of trauma symptoms and acknowledges the role trauma may play in an individual’s life. The model embraces cultural, policy and communication methods that support a trauma-informed environment to provide an environment of safety, trust, peer support, collaboration, empowerment, cultural humility, and responsiveness. You can read more about Trauma-Informed Care here.
TIC is a cultural shift for the Indiana State Psychiatric Hospital network. The implementation process will be continuously monitored for improvements and patient care will not be interrupted. Current patients’ care plans will have trauma-informed care language and modalities incorporated into them which will improve their care and may expediate their healing and recovery process. The goal is to have full implementation of TIC across all six hospitals by the end of 2021.
