From Covering Kids & Families of Indiana
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) have announced a special enrollment period (SEP) of February 15th - May 15th for the Healthcare.gov Marketplace.
- Consumers can apply for coverage or update an existing application.
- Consumers have 30 days after submitting an application to choose a plan.
- Coverage will begin the first day of the month following the date of plan selection.
- Current enrollees can change to any available plan within the same level of coverage as their current plan.
- Consumers are not required to provide documentation of a qualifying event (e.g. loss of a job or birth of a child).
- CMS will be promoting the SEP with paid advertising and direct outreach to consumers in English, Spanish and other languages.
Data collected by Health Reform: Beyond the Basics shows that in Indiana 70% of consumers qualified for the Premium Tax Credit and 42% qualified for the Cost Sharing Reductions. 43% of consumers who signed up for Marketplace coverage had a monthly premium option of $50 or less after the Premium Tax Credit. |
