HANDS in Autism: Early Childhood Development Training

HANDS in Autism® is looking for children with interest in participating as part of their upcoming 3-Day Early Childhood Development Trainings for early childhood professionals. They have conducted this training for the past 7 years in both in-person and now virtual formats. Participants in this training serve in a range of professional roles within school and community-based early childhood, preschool and early elementary settings with students with ASD and related eligibilities or needs. They attend the training to be able to observe students, as well as interact with the students to practice skills with feedback from HANDS trainers during the 3-day training event. As such, they are seeking individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and/or individuals with social, communication, behavior, or neurodevelopmental disorders who are between the ages of 2 and 6 years to participate.

In 2021, opportunities are available for children or student participants during the following weeks:

· Wednesday, April 7—Friday, April 9

· Wednesday, October 6—Friday, October 8

For those that are interested and selected for participation, the child and family/staff will work directly with HANDS trainers during the training times with focus on the training of academic, behavioral, play/leisure, communication and functional skills. Children are among 3-4 students within the training and our training staff, which is comprised of a combination of psychologists and educators, work directly with each child during the training. Children will attend in midday to afternoon times (approximately 12:00-3:30); however, times will be confirmed once participation is confirmed.

Participation in the 3-Day Early Childhood Training is a great hands-on learning experience for early childhood professionals and it is a fun learning environment for the participating children as well. Parents benefit from their child’s participation as they will receive supplementary materials used during the training and additional feedback and tips from the HANDS trainers regarding strategies and activities that have worked most effectively for their child.
