Take Action to Ensure SSI Included in Reconciliation

From Justice in Aging

Members of Congress need to hear from you NOW. Tell your members of Congress that they MUST include key improvements to the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program in the reconciliation package that is currently being worked up in Congress.

new report from the Urban Institute found that the SSI improvements Justice in Aging and others are advocating for could reduce poverty for 1.2 million older adults and 1.2 million people with disabilities. The provisions would also more than halve the percentage of SSI recipients in poverty from 35.7% to 16.1%. That’s HUGE. Reconciliation is a rare opportunity to make needed investments in this critical program that hasn’t been updated in decades. But your members need to hear from you to ensure it’s included in the process!
