What’s New for 2022 Marketplace

A blog post from the Center on Health Insurance Reforms (CHIR) highlights what’s new for the 2022 Marketplace Enrollment that starts next week.

  • The Enhanced Premium Tax Credits that were part of the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act continue for 2022.
  • For 2021 only, the ARP provided additional subsidies for people who were approved to receive unemployment insurance at some point during the year. If consumers didn’t have the extra subsidies applied during the year, they can claim the credit when they file their 2021 taxes.
  • In 2022, households with an income under 150% of the federal poverty level will be eligible for a monthly special enrollment period.
  • Consumers who fail to reconcile their tax credits will not risk losing their advanced premium tax credits (APTC) for 2022 nor will they be required to pay back any excess APTCs for 2021.
  • PrEP (a daily pill to prevent HIV transmission) and essential support services for taking the medication, must be provided without cost sharing.
  • A new federal law takes effect in 2022 that protects patients from receiving surprise medical bills.
