CHIP Premiums and the PHE

From Covering Kids & Families of Indiana

During the public health emergency (PHE), children covered under the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) have not paid premiums or co-payments. In Indiana, CHIP is called Hoosier Healthwise Package C and covers children whose family income is 158% to 250% (+5% disregard) of federal poverty level (FPL).

When the Federal PHE ends, consumers will again be responsible for making premium payments ranging from $22 a month to $53 ($33 to $70 with two or more children). Consumers should ensure their contact information is up-to-date with the State. Consumers also need to be on the lookout for important mail from the Family & Social Service Administration (FSSA) and should understand that not responding and/or failure to pay premiums can result in the loss of coverage. Premiums can be paid by mail, phone or online using credit card, debit card or electronic check.
