New Bill Increasing SSI Asset Limits

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is being targeted by Congress.

A bipartisan bill is moving on Capitol Hill that would give people with disabilities and older Americans more freedom to save and earn without risking losing their benefits. The last time SSI asset limits were updated was in the 1980s. There are some folks that haven't seen an update to SSI in their lifetime.

The SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act (S. 4102) raises the asset limits from $2,000 to $10,000 for individuals and from $3,000 to $20,000 for married couples, plus it accounts for flexibility with inflation moving forward.

This bill gets rid of the marriage penalty on SSI and allows the 8 million Americans depending on SSI to have more financial freedom.
