Decision making and guardianship recording and materials available

"The Bureau of Developmental Disability Services is committed to supporting our provider network in working toward a true person-centered system which includes ensuring that those who support individuals honor individual rights and understand the role of guardians.

As part of that commitment, BDDS hosted three opportunities for a web-based training focused on individual rights within the context of guardianship. We were pleased to offer this in partnership with Indiana Disability Rights. We are appreciative to Melissa Keyes, executive director of Indiana Disability Rights, for sharing her expertise.

Participants learned about:

  • Self-determination and decision-making
  • Guardianship role and responsibilities
  • Guardians and home-and community-based services
  • Addressing disagreements
  • How you can support decision-making

A recording of the training is now available here and the PowerPoint is available here. A question-and-answer document will be posted soon.

As a reminder, BDDS has a playlist of videos that might be of interest to providers, individuals, families and other stakeholders that can be found here.

If you would like additional resources or have any questions that were not addressed in the Q&A session, please feel free to reach out to BDDS Help: 800-545-7763 or BDDS.Help@fssa.IN.gov."
