Energy & Water Assistance Programs Accepting Applications until May 15, 2023
Applications are still being accepted for Indiana's Energy Assistance Program (EAP) and Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP). These programs help households pay a portion of their electricity, heating, water and wastewater bills, while potentially helping to avoid shutoffs. Applications will continue to be accepted until May 15, 2023.
The utility shutoff moratorium provides some protection for Hoosiers from having their electric and gas service shut off from December 1 through March 15. EAP recipients who are not current on their bills should immediately talk with their utility vendors about arrangements to bring their accounts current in order to avoid potential disconnection. Households that make 60% of the state median income (60 SMI) or less may be eligible for benefits. Anyone interested is encouraged to apply for EAP/LIHWAP before May 15, 2023.
A detailed chart of income eligibility requirements, a list of local service providers, and a link to the online application can be found on the IHCDA website. A household call also call 211 and follow the prompt for EAP to speak with someone to receive assistance in filling out the application, ask questions about EAP, or obtain contact information for the specific Local Service Provider in their area.
