HHS Finalizes Patient Data Sharing Rule

From TheNationalCouncil.org

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) finalized a rule seeking to penalize providers that do not share a patient’s information when requested by the patient. The final rule defines the process for determining whether a provider has engaged in information blocking and introduces disincentives for providers found to have committed information blocking. Through this process, the final rule aims to advance HHS priorities for promoting safer, more coordinated care for patients through electronic health information sharing.
