Indiana Senate Bill 537

Family Voices urges our members to follow and advocate for Senate Bill 537. This bill addresses the eligibility for our children's health insurance program Hooiser Healthwise) and would require the Indiana office of Medicaid policy and planning to apply to the federal government to increase income eligibility in the children's health insurance program to 300% of the federal poverty level. (Current eligibility in the program is 250% of the federal poverty level.) This change would provide important coverage to many families. Senate Economic Recovery Package

FV Indiana knows that our members like all American are concerned about our current economic crisis. The large issues of housing crisis, bailouts and stimulus plans have garnered national attention. It is important for FV Families to know about and advocate for the parts of the economic recovery package under consideration by the Senate that impact our families directly. · $87 billion temporary increase in the share of the Medicaid program paid by the federal government over nine calendar quarters (October 1, 2008 through December 31, 2010). · $13 billion The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) grants provide funding to assist states and school districts with the costs of special education for the estimated 6.8 million students with disabilities.
