PTSD & Parents with Medically Fragile Children

From CNF's weekly Opportunities & Announcements Newsletter 3.2.21

It’s not uncommon for parents and caregivers of children with a neurologic condition to experience Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) – for a variety of different reasons.

A few months ago, we sat down for a very candid and vulnerable conversation about PTSD and mental health in the child neurology community.

Hillary Savoie, the founder and director of the Cute Syndrome Foundation, shared her experiences with PTSD as the mother of medically-fragile child and witnessing her daughter Esmé go through medical traumas including cardiac arrest, respiratory emergencies and seizures.

She was joined by Kate Junger, a clinical psychologist and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, who has her own personal, as well as professional, experiences with PTSD.

This was one of the most popular topics of discussion from our COVID-19 educational series and, while the pandemic is still on-going, the insights from this conversation stretch far beyond the challenges of these current times.

You can find a recording of the conversation on our website or linked below.
