Indiana Emergency Rental Assistance Update

Did you know that the Indiana Emergency Rental Assistance Program provides payments for both past-due and forward-facing rent? Forward-facing payments are calculated in 3-month increments. After an initial payment is made by the IERA program, the applicant may request additional forward-facing rent through a process called recertification. Recertification is not the same as reapplying – it’s so much easier! Tenants who have already received one payment from IERA but less than 18 months of assistance will receive an email notification to recertify around the 15th of the month before their next rental payment is due.

Households that have received their initial assistance payment but need additional rental assistance should monitor their email for a prompt to complete their electronic recertification. Households needing further assistance should log in and complete the form as quickly as possible. If a household has a new lease, they will need to provide a copy of their current lease. Households who no longer need assistance can indicate “no” on the form and hit submit. It is important to ensure that when completing the forms that households hit the “submit” button on the bottom of the form. That’s all there is to it!
